Rapid EV charging technology provider Kempower has been named ‘Best Newcomer’ in this year’s Carnegie’s Sustainability Awards. The award recognizes the company’s commitment to ensuring all its activities substantially contribute to climate change mitigation.

The Carnegie Sustainability Awards were established in 2019 to highlight examples of sustainable businesses to inspire other companies to decarbonize and capture investor interest. The winners of the three categories are chosen from among 420 listed companies representing approximately 95% of the stock market value in the Nordics.

Carnegie has recognized Kempower for its commitment to enabling and facilitating the charging of EVs, which contributes to climate change mitigation. The company’s Handprint impact, which measures the reduction of emissions from vehicles using Kempower charging stations compared to the carbon footprint of its operations and supply chain, has found that Kempower’s business activities have a significant net positive effect on the environment.

The sustainability of Kempower’s activities is further qualified by its alignment with the EU’s Taxonomy Regulation 2020/852 criteria, confirming that 100% of its activities substantially contribute to climate change mitigation. The Carnegie award also recognizes the company’s dedication to decarbonizing its own operations, with Kempower committing to carbon neutrality by 2035 and reducing landfill waste to zero in 2025.

Beyond environmental considerations, the award also recognizes Kempower’s sustainable employee culture. The company scores an Employer Net Promoter Score (eNPS) of 80, suggesting very high employee satisfaction and loyalty within the organization.

Commenting on receiving the Carnegie award, Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower, said:

“Kempower was born sustainable. We are driving a green transition to electric transportation, creating a cleaner and more quiet environment for us all. Because sustainability is at the core of our business, I am delighted that Carnegie has rewarded our efforts and commitment. For me and all my colleagues, using our experience and understanding of DC charging systems to benefit the climate is a natural choice.”

Lena Österberg, Head of Sustainability Strategy and Advisory at Carnegie, added:

“Companies with ESG integrated into their business models and ambitious sustainability targets continue to capture investor interest. Several new regulations aiming for market transparency will impact investor decisions even more in the future and make companies like Kempower attractive investments.”

“Kempower is a good example of a company that is not only successful in integrating sustainability in its business model but has also shown a high ambition to make a positive impact and reduce its environmental footprint,” Österberg continues.
