Modern charging infra for e-buses in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland: Rolf Stutz AG relies on Kempower

BIBUS X Busdepot Rolf Stutz

As a traditional family-run company, Rolf Stutz AG has been transporting people in Switzerland daily since 1950, particularly in rural regions where travel distances often make walking or cycling impractical. In these areas, sustainable mobility solutions are crucial. According to the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment, approximately 34% of the country’s CO₂ emissions come from transport. Projects like this demonstrate that sustainable public transport is achievable even in structurally challenging regions, provided that intelligent and adaptable charging infrastructure is available.

“With the new charging infrastructure, we are contributing to the decarbonization of the transport sector and are optimally prepared for the mobility of tomorrow. The charging system is not only powerful but also future-proof and scalable – that was particularly important to us because we always want to develop further,” says Patrick Stutz, Managing Director of Rolf Stutz AG.

Across the bus depot, which offered only limited space for the installation, 1.1 megawatts of charging power were distributed among twelve charging points, comparable to the electricity consumption of a small neighborhood with several hundred households. The compact Kempower Control Units were mounted on overhead beams in a space-saving manner. Their integrated cable reel mechanism ensures easy handling during daily operations. The modular Power Units each deliver up to 600 kW and can supply up to eight charging points simultaneously, each with a power capacity of up to 160 kW.

The system is supported by Kempower’s EV charging management software ChargEye, which enables operators on-site to monitor the charging system in real time, diagnose and resolve issues quickly, and prevent downtime of the chargers, which could disrupt business operations.

“We’re proud to have implemented a future-proof, high-performance charging infrastructure in a compact space for Rolf Stutz AG. Thanks to Kempower’s intelligent charging technology and the well-designed setup, the new depot is optimally equipped for electric bus operations – dynamic, modular, and scalable,” explains Dirk Werner, Product Manager E-Mobility & Energy at BIBUS AG.
