Kempower releases Next Generation Charger Platform performance data: superior efficiency and outstanding power factor
Kempower’s next-generation charger platform with silicon carbide (SiC) technology and Power Module V2 extends the company’s product portfolio of charging products. This charging platform provides superior performance to enhance the EV charging experience.
Kempower is already delivering Power Module V2 to its customers from European factories in high volumes and now publishes comprehensive test results on the performance of the new charging platform.
Highlights of Kempower Charger Platform performance:
-
Superior efficiency of >95% at full load
-
Outstanding power factor of >0.99 at full load
-
Low total harmonic distortion of <3% at full load
Based on tests carried out by Kempower’s own laboratory and independent third-party certified laboratories, the Kempower next-generation Charger Platform with Power Module V2 has demonstrated reduced current harmonics and THD, a significantly improved power factor and improved efficiency, resulting in better thermal management and reliability.
Kempower Power Module V2 increases charging efficiency with a power factor of up to 0.99. This helps reduce electrical infrastructure costs while delivering the same charging power to electric vehicles. Other benefits include improved electrical compatibility with existing site locations while contributing to increased grid resilience for large EV charger deployments. In addition, Kempower’s Charger Platform with Power Module V2 complies with all relevant international safety, EMC and radio equipment standards.
“Power electronics is the cornerstone of Kempower’s high reliability and superior user experience. The next generation Charger Platform with power Module V2 is a grid friendly solution: it has low harmonics and a great power factor. The high efficiency over the power range means less power loss and higher profitability for our customers’ charging business. At the same time, the solution is also better for the planet, as power can be utilized more effectively and less energy is wasted,” says Kempower’s Chief Market Officer Jussi Vanhanen.
Currently, Kempower next-generation Charger Platform with Power Module V2 is available with new Kempower Power Unit in the Satellite charging system and for Kempower Station Charger orders. Customer deliveries of the next-generation charger technology began in Q1 2024. The deliveries at the North American markets are planned to start in Q4 2024. Kempower’s sustainable supply chain will allow deliveries to be scaled up to high volumes from both its Lahti, Finland, and North Carolina, USA, production sites.
